The ADVENTURE PHOTOGRAPHIC TOUR begins in the colonial city of Merida, capital of Yucatan. Photographers will check into their hotel and will work out of the studio of the photographer. From there, we will visit ruins, colonial churces, haciendas, small pueblos, the local costal areas including flamingo habitats, and hidden side treasures known by locals and Mr. Xenios.

"... my main empasis of all my classes has been self expression. This class along with the tour will be focused on a visusl representation of your thoughts of Yucatan, its people, and its environment

We will learn the basics of black-and-white and color digital photography while traveling though the beautiful Mexican state of Yucatan. Its inhabitants are descendents of Spanish as well as the Mayan Culture which still occupy the peninsula from Guatemala to the limits of the Gulf of Mexico. The Mayas, in addition to Spanish, still speak their native tongue and continue living in their traditional ways that date back thousands of years. The area is well known for its archaeological treasures, traditions, Spanish colonial influences which are exemplified in the pyramids of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and the beautiful cities of Merida, Isamal and Valladolid.

There will be daily critiques and instructions on exposure, content, adjustments, and presentation of photographs. Students need only their cameras and laptop if available, but not necessary.

Cost: $1850 includes hotel for 6 nights, transportation, entry fees to ruins, guides, and selected meals. For a complete itinerary please contact Andrew Xenios.

Andrew Xenios has his Master's Degree in Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has lived, traveled and taught classes in Merida, Yucatan Mexico for the past 35 years. As well as having more than 30 exhibitions in the area, he has participated in the developing history of modern art in the rich Mayan and Spanish cultural center. In 2000 Merida was declared the cultural center for latin America, a designation worthy of the area. Since recent changes in photography, Mr. Xenios has put his black and white chemical darkroom away for the new modern digital photography era. Still focusing on black and white photographic images, film is now the chip and the new darkroom is the computer. If you are a photographer, tourist, or anybody that has an interest in photography, the Maya, ruins or haciendas, please visit Andrew Xenios at his home and studio in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
